I can’t remember when is last time i was missing my family or thinking of my hometown. Homesickness was the felling i was try to hide it in deep of my heart. Because my mom told me not to be. She thinks homesickness makes people not strong, especially for a man. Although I disagree with her but she never know.
For past couple years i was living by my self. i am try to call my mom regular but she always said to me do to call her too much and tell me that i should focus on my work and do it with my best.
But there is two days i can show my homesickness and without my mom say something. It is Chinese New Year and Chinese Moon Festival. Because these two days is the day celebrate new start and have a reunion with your family . You know most Chinese think new is mean good Because it represents a new beginning，even you don’t have a lucky of the year but you will have the luck in the new year. So, we always stay with our family to waiting for the new good one.
In fact if I am not call my mom she will feel unhappy. And she will try her best to let me come back to home. If she dose that i will tell i am busy on work and don’t have time to go home. I can fell my mom she is not happy about it but she will say “OK, work is important thing.” But when I ring the doorbell and When my mother saw me standing in front of her. She is always happy. Actually I have save my leave days for Chinese New Year period.
Chinese are not good at expressing their love. But their doing a lot of things for love.So what is Homesickness? Or what is home? I think Homesickness is you start missing the one you love. And home is not about about the place is about where is the person you love. We have created so many festivals mostly for us to express our feelings and say love to the people who we are love. actually, we don’t even need festivals if we show us love everyday. And we could get away homesickness if you tell love to your “mom”.
So, goodbye homesickness.

I was living by myself since my high school graduation.
My mom always called me first and told me going visit her and my dad, but I barely do 😀

The place has mom , there will be your home . I think you can bring your mom to travel hawaii , let her know you are fine .

Japanese are also bad at showing their love directly including me. I respect you as you love your mother so much. As for me, I’m father’s kid, so I was worried about him when we moved to Hawaii.

Hi Joseph- I really liked your post. You have some great insight into home and love. I think you are right- we use holidays as an excuse to get together with our family to show our love, but maybe we should do that more every day instead of only on holidays? My own mother died very recently- just in September last year. The last time I saw her, which was about a month before she dies, I didn’t know it was going to be the last time. I wished that I had said “I love you” more when she was alive.
